"Ukrainian soldiers have for months heavily rationed their munitions and are currently outgunned by a ratio of eight to one. This is certainly no way to win. But we can still set it right. In the long run we should invest in our security to create a deterrence so powerful it dwarfs Putin and his cronies. We can deepen and widen our alliances to secure a lasting peace from a position of strength.

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski has responded on X/Twitter to Pope Francis following the latter's controversial remarks that Ukraine should have what he called "the courage of the white flag" and negotiate an end to the war with Russia. "How about, for balance, encouraging Putin to have the courage to withdraw his army from Ukraine?

Poles, who have been helping Ukrainians since the very beginning of the war, organized solidarity rallies with Ukraine in many Polish cities on Saturday, February 24. Radoslaw Sikorski, Poland's foreign minister, told the meting he was "amazed" at the "tone and the content" of comments by Russia's United Nation ambassador.

In 2023, specialized mobile teams of Czech engineers, chemists, medics, and snipers trained nearly a thousand Ukrainian soldiers in Poland. The EU-led mission will continue this year as well. According to the commander of the first rotation, Captain Pavel Kinc,  the joint preparation is also beneficial for the Czech soldiers.

On Monday, the Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk and the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskiy committed to addressing longstanding political disputes that have impeded their crucial wartime alliance. They also pledged to enhance defense cooperation as Russia's invasion of Ukraine approaches its third year.

Slovakia rejects the admission of Ukraine to NATO and is prepared to veto the country's accession if necessary, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico told public radio station RTVS on Saturday. He also announced his meeting on Wednesday with the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, during which he will convey Slovakia's negative position regarding Ukraine's NATO membership.
